Evanston History Center's Annual Gala
EVANSTON, IL (JULY 1, 2019) – The Evanston History Center (EHC) will host its annual Gala event - “A Night at the Blind Pig Speakeasy ” - on Saturday, August 24, 2019.
The evening’s festivities will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Evanston History Center, 225 Greenwood St, Evanston, IL. Guests can start out in the Temperance Tea Room for light non-alcoholic refreshments while they enjoy the view of the lake as the sun sets. Or they can head right into the Speakeasy with their password to enjoy the sounds of the era with The Fat Babies jazz band, learn to dance early 20th century dances, and take advantage of a last drink before the History Center goes “dry” during EHC’s Prohibition commemoration.
In January of 1919, the Prohibition Amendment to the Constitution went into effect. Evanston was already the epicenter for the temperance and prohibition movements, modeling and influencing national trends and opinions. In this centenary year, the Evanston History Center turns its summer gala into an opportunity for the community not only to view the “Dry Evanston: The Untold Story” exhibit, but to experience a little of the Prohibition Era vibe as our history comes alive!
The community is invited to join in the fun. Event tickets can be purchased online at evanstonhistorycenter.org or at the door for $100 per adult and $50 for students. Attendees must be 21 years of age or older.
All event proceeds help the Evanston History Center continue its mission to collect, preserve and share the history of our community.
